Three Landscapes of Aggression

Three Scales of Construction

1987 Competition Overview

The projection of three distinct theatres of production as prior conditions for the construction of a Bridge, and Observatory and a Labyrinth is the focus of this speculative Competition and Forum. A Border Crossing Station for the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service on the Rio Grande is the program for an exploration of the Geography of the Imagination as the specific territory of the Gardener and the Engineer. The river has not been a singularly fixed or even scientifically reliable border …Most borders are fixed by monuments which freeze time and space in stone and steel. Only here along the Southern Border between the United States and Mexico do we have the phenomena of a dynamic, if not tepid spatial frontier.
